I'm Starting a Patreon!
It’s hard for me to process the fact that I have been producing and hosting The Video Essay Podcast for more than a year and a half. Where did the time go?!? It’s been a ton of fun and I’m incredibly grateful for the guests who agreed to chat with me about their lives and work, and to all who have listened to — and engaged with — the podcast and this newsletter. There’s no rush quite like releasing an episode/newsletter into the world and waiting to hear what you all think!
You’re getting this mini-edition of the newsletter because, after these many months, and careful consideration, I’ve decided to create a Patreon page for this newsletter and The Video Essay Podcast. You can find it here.
Despite many long and sometimes frustrating nights of audio editing and re-editing, producing the podcast and writing this newsletter has never really felt like work. I’m lucky enough to have a job I love and to have this podcast and newsletter as a hobby that, perhaps, will one day turn into part of my profession.
But, there are a number of costs associated with producing the show and this newsletter and, as I prepare for a number of personal transitions, getting some help to defray the cost of those expenses would be much-appreciated. “thevideoessay.com” began as the home of a podcast, and now, is the home to a podcast, newsletter, and a whole lot more. I have a number of aspirations and plans for how to continuing building the website and podcast, and any funds raised on the Patreon page would go directly towards those efforts.
And here’s the most important point: any content that I create will always remain 100% free and available to everyone, whether they subscribe to the Patreon or not. If you like the podcast, newsletter, and what I do, then I ask you to donate simply as a way to help keep the lights on! As I wrote on the Patreon page, think of it as buying me a coffee and/or snack and/or meal once a month!
Anyway, that’s all I got. You can expect another episode of the podcast by the end of this month. See ya soon!
Peace,
Will
